CAMA supporters received good news Tuesday afternoon.

Rep. Tim Johnson (R-15th District), announced CAMA is to receive another Drug Free Communities grant from the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA).

“This grant will be used as wisely as any federal money,” Johnson said of the $98,646 grant.

As the fiscal year comes to an end, CAMA, Inc. would like to update its stewards, volunteers, friends, and collaborative agencies on CAMA’s busy summer schedule.  There is an endless list of projects CAMA is working on.   We have our planning hats on 24 hours a day.  July, August, and September will be filled with Federal, State, and Foundation site visits as well as a great deal of travel for CAMA Teens and our coalition director.  We will welcome these site visits as a time to share all of our progress and outcomes with our three funding sources this year.  Site visits are also a time to reflect on all CAMA has accomplished in the past 12 months.  There were several positive outcomes this year tied directly to the State funding, most importantly hiring Carrie Miller as event Coordinator.  She has not only taken over a huge responsibility, the events, but has been instrumental in the development of the steering committee.   Her part-time status is actually full time in responsibility, and we are so grateful.    There are three trips planned in August and September.  Cherise Murphy and Anne Sutton will venture to Nashville Tennessee with 5 CAMA Teens to attend the 10th National UDETC Leadership Conference. This conference invites law enforcement and prevention agencies together to discuss national underage drinking issues.  It is being held at Opryland, Nashville, TN August 20-23, 2008 and promises to be very informative.
